What is a crown?
A crown is a dental restoration that restores the strength and structural integrity of a tooth. Dr. Ragnell may recommend a crown when a filling doesn’t require the necessary amount of restoration. The crown is placed over the remnant of the tooth and covers it down to the gum line. Unlike fillings, crowns provide a new chewing surface and protect a tooth against further damage. We offer full and 3/4 crowns, depending on your needs. Dr. Ragnell always strives to preserve as much tooth structure as possible when restoring a tooth to health.
What are crowns made of?
Crowns are made of a few different materials. In the past, most crowns were made of metals containing gold or silver. Then, to improve aesthetics, crowns were constructed out of porcelain fused to metal. Now, crowns can be made of all porcelain, which provides a truly exceptional restoration.
What are the advantages of porcelain crowns?
Porcelain crowns not only restore strength to a damaged tooth, they also deliver an aesthetically pleasing restoration. Porcelain crowns are custom made to fit over your damaged tooth and match the rest of your teeth in color, size, shape, and translucency.
What’s a one-visit crown?
A one-visit crown is a custom-milled restoration created using CEREC or E4D technology. Dr. Ragnell will design, mill, and apply your crown in a single office visit. No temporaries, and no waiting weeks to receive a permanent restoration.
How long will it take to receive my crown?
Lab-created crowns take a couple of weeks to produce. If you qualify for a custom-milled crown created with CEREC or E4D technology, your crown can be designed, fabricated, and placed in a single office visit.
