Porcelain Crowns
Serving Dallas, Fort Worth
Porcelain crowns are used to repair and restore teeth that have been damaged too much for a filling. Whether it is the result of decay, trauma, or other reason, if your tooth has been damaged, a porcelain crown can restore 98% of its function and 100% of its appearance.
Unlike fillings, which fit inside the tooth, porcelain crowns act like a cap, and cover the entire surface of the tooth. In the past, crowns were made of various metal amalgams. Today, porcelain is used to provide the same benefits of metal crowns, but without the unsightly color and other downsides of metal.
In order for your porcelain crown to be placed, Dr. Avant will carefully reshape your existing tooth so that the crown can be placed without appearing unnaturally large or misshaped.
In the past, after you tooth had been reshaped, a mold was taken and sent to a dental laboratory where the dental crown was created. In the time during the fabrication of your dental crown, you were forced to wear a temporary crown.
Today, Cerec technology allows you to receive your porcelain crown in just one office visit. With Cerec technology, Dr. Avant will use a special 3-D technology to map your prepared natural tooth. Then, a computerized machine will create your porcelain crown while you wait.
Cerec technology can provide you with a porcelain crown that looks and functions exactly like your natural tooth. After the Cerec crown has been fabricated, Dr. Avant will bond it to your natural tooth using a bonding solution and a specially calibrated light.
