Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a simple procedure to transform smiles – perhaps deceptively simple, as it takes an experienced and talented dentist to do it well. Dr. Ragnell has achieved outstanding results with this procedure for many years.
Bonding is a fast and effective way to brighten a smile in just one visit. The material used for bonding is a putty-like composite of plastics and dental resins that comes in a variety of shades. Dr. Ragnell will choose a shade that closely matches your natural tooth color. If you’d like to whiten your teeth, we’ll perform that procedure first, then select a shade to match your bright new smile.
Dental bonding can correct many problems, including:
- Chips
- Cavities
- Stains
- Slight crookedness or misalignment
- Small gaps between teeth
- Adjacent teeth that are mismatched in size
To correct these and other issues, Dr. Ragnell applies the bonding material and molds it into the desired shape. You can review the results before the bonding hardens, and Dr. Ragnell can fine-tune the details to your satisfaction. He may even partially harden the bonding material, remove it, and let you take it home to get a taste of the results before committing to the final product.
The Procedure
Unless a filling is being applied, no anesthetic is needed. The tooth to be treated is slightly buffed for optimal adherence of the bonding material. Dr. Ragnell will then apply a conditioning liquid along with the bonding material. When you’re happy with the shape of your bonded tooth, we’ll use a curing light to harden the bonded resin, make minor adjustments, and polish your tooth to a pearly sheen. The entire process takes half an hour to an hour.
