Porcelain veneers are custom-made, ultra-thin, porcelain shells that are created to fit over the front sides of your teeth. Porcelain veneers are used to provide people suffering from many different dental problems with bright new smiles.
Porcelain veneers can correct many different dental problems, some of the most common problems people choose to correct with porcelain veneers include:
- Chipped Teeth
- Crooked Teeth
- Disfigured Teeth
- Cracked Teeth
- Discolored Teeth
- Gaps in your Smile
- Broken Teeth
Porcelain veneers are not only durable, but they are custom matched to the desired color of your teeth, they are translucent like your natural tooth material, and they are stain resistant.
In order to correct your smile with porcelain veneers, you must first schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Avant. During your initial consultation, Dr. Avant will evaluate your dental health and listen to the results you would like to see. He will then help you determine if porcelain veneers are right for you and schedule your next dental appointment.
During your next appointment, Dr. Avant will gently remove a very small layer of enamel from your front teeth. This step is performed so that the porcelain veneers fit seamlessly on your teeth and do not appear unnatural.
After the layer of enamel is removed, Dr. Avant will take a mold of your teeth. This mold is then sent to a porcelain veneers lab, where your custom porcelain veneers will be created.
Generally, it takes a couple of weeks for your new porcelain veneers to be fabricated and sent back to Dr. Avant. In this time, you will be fitted with temporary veneers. Although they will not be your permanent porcelain veneers, they will appear to be very natural.
Once your porcelain veneers arrive back from the lab, Dr. Avant will invite you back to his office so they can be permanently placed on your teeth. This is accomplished by carefully applying a bonding solution and then using a specially calibrated light to cure the bonding and affix your porcelain veneers.
